Many people feel their day is consumed by work, family, and responsibilities. So at night, instead of sleeping, they stay up scrolling, binge-watching, or doing hobbies — finally claiming “me time”. But this “revenge bedtime procrastination” often steals from tomorrow’s energy, health, and mood.
This wasn’t always the case. Before technology took over, TV transmissions ended at midnight. Shops closed. Rest was enforced. Now? The world never stops. 24-hour food outlets, nonstop entertainment, constant notifications — everything is designed to keep you awake. If you don’t set limits, the world will consume your nights, and you’ll pay the price in the morning.
I still remember the few nights I didn’t sleep well. My mood dropped, my energy tanked, and the workout I had planned? I skipped it completely. I couldn’t even bring myself to try.
Turns out, it’s not just “being tired”. Lack of sleep actually messes with blood sugar. When you don’t get enough rest, your body struggles to use insulin properly. That means sugar levels rise, cravings kick in, and you feel sluggish all day.

So, how do you win in a high-tech world? You lead yourself with discipline:
. Digital sunset: no screens an hour before bed.
. Wind-down ritual: stretch, journal, meditate, or listen to calming sound.
. Control your environment: cool, dark, quiet, screen-free.
. Prioritise sleep as fuel: treat it as a non-negotiable, not an option. Remind yourself: good sleep IS me time.
Because maybe the most loving gift we can give ourselves isn’t another late-night episode. It’s sleep — the kind of me time that restores us for tomorrow.
